Rachel Megawhat is a London-based painter and photographer whose work spans three decades. She began as photographer in residence at the Imperial Gardens club in Camberwell in the 1990s, came up through the squat rave scene, and went on to work as a political and hard-news photojournalist; her book Imperial Gardens London 1990s is published by Café Royal Books. Her paintings are mostly figurative and realist, and her interests run to humanity, technology, religion and London. In 2026 she had two solo shows: Flesh in the Age of Machines, oil paintings and collages at The Colony Room, Heddon Street (June to July, curated by Darren Coffield), and Beasts of London, paintings and prints on the city's symbolic animals at Durning Library, Kennington (September, curated by Rossella Black). She has taken part in the Art Car Boot Fair since 2017.
